Common sense for the safe use of acetylene gas

Why can’t acetylene cylinders run out of gas in the bottle?

The gas in the cylinder is exhausted, the pressure in the bottle is balanced with the atmospheric pressure, and the air is easily mixed into the bottle, forming a mixture of acetylene and air. The explosion limit of acetylene is 2.3%-100% (volume fraction), when the acetylene bottle mixed with air is sent to be inflated, high-pressure acetylene mixed with the air in the bottle is very easy to explode; The chemical properties of acetylene don’t fluctuate, and it is prone to decomposition repercussions, and a slight application of energy (such as impact and vibration) will cause decomposition explosion. Even in the absence of combustion aids such as oxygen or air, pure acetylene can explode when pressurized to more than 0.2MPa. The acetylene bottle contains the solvent acetone, and as the pressure of acetylene in the bottle decreases, the solvent brought out of the bottle is gradually added. If acetylene is exhausted, it will increase the loss of solvent, which will bring explosion risk to filling, transportation, storage and application.

Why can’t acetylene cylinders be put upside down?

1.The acetylene cylinder is equipped with packing and solvent acetone, when put down for use, acetone is easy to flow out with acetylene, not only add acetone consumption, but also reduce the extinguishing temperature and affect the application, and at the same time tempering will occur to cause acetylene cylinder explosion.

2.The acetylene cylinder is easy to roll and be hit when lying flat, resulting in an explosion accident.

3.The acetylene cylinder is equipped with a shockproof rubber ring, which is designed to avoid collisions in loading, unloading, transportation and operation. Rubber ring is an insulating material, the cylinder flat is equivalent to acetylene cylinder placed on the insulator, so that the static electricity on the cylinder can’t be dispersed to the earth, accumulated on the bottle body, easy to occur electrostatic sparks, when there is acetylene leakage, it is easy to form an explosion accident.

4.The acetylene cylinder valve is equipped with a pressure reducer, flame arrester and connecting hose. Because the cylinder is easy to roll when lying flat, it is easy to damage the pressure reducer, flame arrester or pull off the hose when rolling, causing acetylene to leak and causing extinguishing explosion.
